Render or Stacked Stone?

So we are undecided on the finish to our portico.

Metricon has a handy virtual design tool called Envisage that lets you play with colour schemes and designs to help you visualise how a room looks.

Render or stone???

Envisage – Facade Visuals

Edit: I wished I’d heard of New Home Visuals back when we were agonizing over the facade. My darling husband and I couldn’t agree on what to do with the portico. I toyed with the idea of cladding it in stacked stone but hubby wasn’t keen and thought it would date. So in the end we went the render route. I think we made the right decision if the visuals of the two options is anything to go by.

The Dream Home

The project to build our dream home is 3 years in the making. So suffice it to say we have had a helluva lot of time to shop around for the perfect house. We spent many of our weekends at Homeworld  with our not-so-impressed little girls along for the ride. We looked at every house on display and fell in love with a few but it was Metricon that got us really excited with their amazing designs and picture perfect display homes!

One of our must-have’s is to have the master 20140614-093653-34613929.jpgbedroom at the back of the house.Unfortunately this really limited our choices as most designs have the master at the front. Another on the must list is for a parents retreat to enjoy some peace and quiet, a beautiful space to read a book or meditate and do some yoga. And so the minute we walked through the Laguna and saw the private balcony off the master, we thought it was near perfect!

It was sheer luck that we stumbled upon a video of the Hudson and loved the floor plan even more than the Laguna. The two designs are very similar and the video presenter even describes the Hudson as the “wider version of the Laguna”.

So, after years of window shopping, we finally found THE ONE! Can’t wait to get started.

The journey so far…

We had grand plans to do the knockdown rebuild 3 years ago after the wedding but life took over and slowly the dream faded into the background. After welcoming daughter number 3 in September 2012, the idea of building our dream home for our family to enjoy and create long lasting memories in started to form inside my head. And so the quest to find the perfect block to build our McMansion began. As a buyer, we couldn’t have picked the worst time to be in the market as Sydney prices surged to dizzying heights jumping more than $100,000 in only a few months! Just as I was ready to take a break and throw in the towel, my dear husband managed to pull off a deal and a great block that pretty much ticked the boxes was ours. Sold prior to auction! Not wasting anytime to get the ‘knockdown rebuild’ ball rolling, we paid Metricon the initial deposit 2 days after exchanging contracts. We had our tender presentation 1 week before settlement and we figure we have 6 weeks up our sleeves. We had our contract presentation and external colour selections this Tuesday so we’re another stage closer to the build. We hope to write a separate post for each stage of the build but that’s all for now.

Thanks for dropping by and welcome to our humble online abode!
